I can only speak for myself, but I come from a culture and community where marriage was expected from me. The cultural norm and the consequential pressure from my family was overwhelming, and when you’re in your early twenties and have been abused most of your life, it’s terrifying to say “no” to that norm. I personally do not want marriage for myself, as I stand today. Life is about evolution, so who knows how that will change, but I should never have gotten married in the first place.
