An Indian woman’s perspective on Chapelle’s latest show on Netflix.

It’s Monday night, and holy crap I’m exhausted. I had a blast this weekend. Beach time, hiking, spending time with my childhood friends. Lot of relaxing, food, and opportunities for fun discourse.

But y’girl is tired.

So, earlier this evening, as the holiday weekend came to an end, I curled up with my man and re-watched Dave Chapelle’s newest stand up on Netflix: Sticks & Stones.

And I started talking to some of my peers after I watched it. What’s fascinating to me is that such a large group of people are so deeply offended by it, and that the group of people in my personal circle who are so offended by it are all white.

My colored friends (including myself, a brown woman, and my black boyfriend as well as Arabic friend) and the small number of LGBTQ friends I do have all think the show was riotously funny. Off-key, inappropriate, and controversial but well…
